Cynthia A. Stewart graduated from Washington University School of Law; Preparatory education, Millsaps College; admitted to Mississippi bar in 1983; also admitted to practice before U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; U.S. District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi.  Member of Hinds County Bar Association; Mississippi Bar; Mississippi Association for Justice; American Association for Justice; National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys; and Mississippi Attorneys for Constitutional Justice.  Practicing criminal defense law for more than twenty years.

Well respected by peers and judges for her negotiating skills as well as her trial skills.  She has successfully tried death penalty cases, murder cases, civil rights cases, and fraud cases.  She has one of the best ratios of successful outcomes in D.U.I. representation in the state.

She recently represented the bodyguard of the mayor of the City of Jackson, charged with civil rights violations in conjunction with damage done to a crack house.  The jury was unable to reach a verdict after four weeks of trial and deliberations.  The client pled to a misdemeanor with no prison time.

In the last several years, both state and federal authorities have increasingly targeted health care providers for prosecution violations of the complex web of state and federal laws and regulations.  Stewart successfully represented physicians and billing corporations.  In one instance, the federal government dismissed its multi-count indictment for Medicare fraud with prejudice after a threat to pursue attorney’s fees post trial in the event of an acquittal.

In both state and federal court, she has successfully represented individuals charged with sex offenses.  In numerous instances, she used constitutional challenges to state and federal statutes to avoid convictions and/or jail time.

In both state and federal court, Cynthia Stewart has successfully represented individuals charged with drug offenses.  She successfully obtained acquittal in a drug case with videotape of the transaction.  She was instrumental in obtaining the dismissal of federal charges, using technology to demonstrate that the poor quality videotape of the federal agents depicted a different person from the defendant.  In cases too numerous to count, she has successfully negotiated deals involving both no prison time and no felony conviction.

Cynthia Stewart has successfully kept numerous individuals charged with embezzlement and other employment crimes out of the penitentiary.
